Rebuilding the 'VERMONT way'

through Our Community Service Project

Hurricane Irene hit Vermont on August 28th, dropping 11" of rain in a few short hours. Mountain run off of this water resulted in catostophic flooding of Vermont's rivers and streams. The flooding in Quechee, far worse than the historic flooding in 1927, caused record damage to homes, businesses, roads and the iconic covered bridge.
The Save the Covered Bridge Project is a nonprofit effort to raise funds for and increase awareness of the rebuilding of the Quechee Covered Bridge in Quechee, Vermont. This community service project was conceived by two teenagers who felt compelled to help reverse the damage that Hurricane/Tropical Storm Irene caused to the Village of Quechee. Our Project
"Rebuilding the VERMONT way" means that we come together as a community and maintain hope as we rely on local resources - especially our neighbors' talents - to rebuild what was damaged in our town. We felt that we had something to offer and designed a t-shirt, which is now for sale in several shops in Quechee. All of the proceeds from these sales will go towards the rebuilding process.

After seeing the churning brown flood water hitting the bridge with ocean-like waves, I'm surprised that the bridge is still standing at all! - Johnny
Seeing the gaping hole in the road the next day with the bridge detached, is what convinced me that we needed to help rebuild. - Sarabeth
